We decided to move to Australia many years ago after my brother emigrated back in 1988. We visited a number of times and spent the Millennium celebrations at Sydney Harbour; It was during this trip that we realised it was time to start making the steps into emigrating. When we returned to the UK I contacted the Australian commission. I was a IT and Comms Engineer and my wife is a Senior Health Care support worker. Unfortunately we didn’t make the grade. However in 2002 I decided to try again this time useing a migration agent. Time was fading fast as my wife and I were fast approaching 45 the cut off age for skilled migration.  
 
After lots of documentation work we were finally accepted in Spring 2003 – what an achievement! We subsequently made our validation trip in the October of that year. 
 
We decided that we would make the move to Australia in September 2004. To start with we stayed with my Brother and his family in the Blue Mountains NSW for a couple of weeks, whilst we were waiting for our furniture and belongings to be shipped from the UK along with our Yorkshire terrier Ben and cat Sol. All dogs and cats need to spend four weeks in Quarantine when entering Australia from the UK – there are only 2 Quarantine centres in Australia – one near Sydney and one near Perth. 
 
We decided to rent a house in Kellyville in NSW and used the next few weeks travelling. We visited Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. This gave us a chance to see the country make up our minds on where to set down our roots. Subsequently we decided that the Gold Coast was the place for us. We are now settled in the Gold Coast and have not regretted that decision for one moment.
