We are all very aware that modern life is fast paced. We hear about the exciting opportunities that await those willing to work hard and take a few risks. In the main we feel this to be basically true.

On the other hand we know that there are also many challenges to be faced in daily lives on our quest to achieve the life we want. At every stage in our life those challenges will be quite different but nevertheless real and valid.

School leavers and young people are faced with a vast array of choices in a world that tells them they can have and be anything they want. From their point of view however the difficulty is working out what it is that they want and what will bring meaning and satisfaction to their lives. They’d love some guidelines and steps to follow but often find just more questions at every turn.

In the middle years the challenges multiply. The questions often go something like:

· “How do I balance what I’d like in my working life with what I’d like in my personal and family life?”

· “What am I doing with my life?”

· “How can I lead a better life?”

· “How can I lead a more rewarding, healthier and happier life?”

In the later years (and they’re getting much later!) people are seeking quality in their lives. Better relationships, better health, better balance, better experiences and often a chance to share their experience with others and contribute.

Whilst there is rarely ever one nice neat easy answer to any of these questions, there are a lot of resources available to you to help you. Every library and bookshop is stacked full of publications aimed at helping us to understand ourselves better and overcome obstacles in our lives. The internet has opened up a world of free resources to people willing to spend the time seeking them out. Some people will find what they’re looking for in these resources. Others will find themselves still asking “how does all this relate to me?”.

However you don’t have to be alone in your quest. Seeking assistance from a qualified professional such as a registered psychologist can be a great help. A psychologist will use tools, techniques and strategies to help you sort through the issues in your life and recognize what might be holding you back from achieving the life you’d like. A psychologist will spend time with you focusing on you and your issues and will work with you to develop strategies that suit you.

Is it time to do something differently? A wise person (unknown) said “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you got”. So, take positive action for a positive future.

I have enjoyed spending the past 17+ years assisting people of ages and all walks of life make positive changes and transitions in their lives. I use tested and authentic tools and strategies and adapt them to you and your needs. I have particular and extensive experience in the vocational and education areas; as well as health and rehabilitation.

Counselling Services

We’ve all heard people say things like “so and so will make themselves sick if they keep worrying so much / working so hard / burning the candle at both ends”.

Stress is absolutely unavoidable. That’s a fact. We actually need a little bit of stress in our lives to keep us alert and active. We call these stresses achievable challenges. Another fact however, is that high levels of stress will take it’s toll on anyone’s health and well being if it goes unchecked for long periods of time. We’ve known this for a long time and there are solid scientific foundations for this. In other words it’s not all in our minds.

Many people suffer from medical conditions that may be exacerbated by stress such as gastro-intestinal disorders, headaches, pain and compromised immune systems.

Scientists and health practitioners know that it is impossible to separate a person’s mind from their body. They are intricately linked through our very sophisticated nervous system. The good news is that we can readily use our minds to help ourselves and our bodies and also learn to cope better with life’s ups and downs and demands. The other good news is that we can all take positive action, that suits us individually, to help us lead healthier and happier lives. This doesn’t mean living on carrot juice and lettuce leaves (unless you really want to). It means working out what suits you.

I can provide a range of services that may assist you in learning to manage and deal with stress and help you free up space for the things in life you’d really like to do doing.
