At Sunesis, we view the human story with reflective depth, that contains an intermingling of our natural and everyday attitudes:- our 'ultimate identity'. Counselling takes more than one person to speak the truth of a story; counselling takes one to speak and others to listen? Attentive companions can facilitate reflective listening to bring the story teller into contact with parts of their experience and knowing, that are partially hidden. Thus, such attentive listening and questioning can bring people back into relationship with their ultimate identity, and as Thomas Merton says their "inmost truth." Attentive listening can enable people to hear truth for themselves for the very first time. Such listening creates a holy silence, the story and its inmost truth will resonate deep within story teller and listener alike.
