The Promised Ring is a gemmologist run business and as such is committed to offering top quality products, service and information. The parent company, Ethical Jewellery Australia Pty Ltd was created in response to Oxfam's 'No Dirty Gold' campaign. This campaign aims to educate the public about the destructive nature of gold mining with a view to creating enough industry pressure to affect positive change. 23 major retailers (including Tiffany and WalMart) in the USA have signed the no dirty gold pledge. Melinda Nugent FGAA, the director of Ethical Jewellery Australia, conceived the idea of The Promised Ring while working in a bespoke jewellery retail outlet that she owned with a business partner in Brisbane. She recognised the challenge that men faced when trying to come up with the perfect ring design, she also saw the other side when their partner's weren't as in love with the ring as they'd like to be. She suggested to a few customers that they purchase the components of a ring (i.e. precious metal and diamonds) and the idea was so well received that she sold her half of the business to develop the concept further.
